ROLL THE PRESSES

Asian elephants have a gestation period of 645 days.

African elephants are pregnant for 640 days.

My book from pitch letter to press has been in the oven about 820 days!

And for the past three weeks, Dan and I have been going over the final proof pages.
We’ve carefully checked every photo, caption and resource on each of the book’s 160 pages.(From Chapter 7)

It seems like a lifetime since I submitted the idea to Gibbs Smith in January 2007.
(From Chapter 9)

Now, as I sit here typing this blog entry, the book is being printed.

(From Chapter 11)

The proofs look great and I am sure that once that first crisp copy arrives at your door you will forget about how long it took from start to finish. There's nothing like it except perhaps child birth - if we remembered how crappy we felt for nine months or the pain of labor we'd never have any more kids! I'm just finishing up the proofing process myself on my second book and I can tell you it doesn't get easier the second time around.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I am SO glad I stumbled upon your blog. ..can't wait until the book comes out. Please take a look at my little schoolhouse retreat..you'll enjoy it I think!

Barbara,

I am so excited and proud of you. What an accomplishment. The book looks wonderful and I know how hard you worked at it. I hope you give yourself a GIANT pat on the back when it is finished.

I think I am going to put "Writing a Book" on my Vision Board. You have give me the confidence that maybe, I too, can achieve this some day.

Congratulations.

xoxo Cathy
