When spending a day at the beach, I generally tote a towel, lotion, a book and a lacy hand knit shawl. I like to travel light, so why a shawl?
It's in case I want to stay and watch the sunset over the water. In late afternoon when cool breezes begins to blow off of the water a shawl comes in mighty handy.
This wind, officially known as "sea breeze," occurs in response to differences in temperature between a body of water and neighboring land. While any old sweatshirt would do, one of my hand-knit shawls feel more romantic for sunset viewing.
Today, I came across a shawl pin for beach-loving knitters (or shawl wearers).
It's from Knit Picks and I couldn't wait to share my find... after I ordered one for myself, of course! It also comes in a Cat Lovers version or with knitting or nature charms.

This is such a great idea! Thanks for the link!
Kat :)
Your beach pics look so peaceful and inviting. You leave me longing for some seabreeze, wearing a shawl with that perfect pin!
Can I say that it is charming without eliciting groans? It really is sweet! Beautiful photos too. For me, I tote a book, some magazines, water, my ipod, sunglasses, sunscreen, baby powder, hair clips and a top in case it gets windy or I get too much sun. Phew! It sounds like a lot, but it works for me.
I've been at Venice Beach this week and wishing I had a shawl! Funny. Would love to see yours and a simple pattern to make one Barbara. Love the pin!! xoRoberta
I enjoyed my visit to your lovely blog. I'm off to your book site. now. Wishing you happiness and continued success, Katherine
Loving the idea of the knitted shawl, just perfect for watching the sunset
The beach .. I love going to the beach. That means I'm on vacation. Away from work ... relaxing ... destressing ... My favorite beach so far is still Boracay.
Hi Barbara. It's good to see your beautiful face again. I'm so happy for you and all you're doing.
Please do another post about Paris for those of us who are still planning and dreaming about going there at the right time.
Happy thoughts, Brook
I can't believe I just found your blog! I purchased your book at a cute little shop in Venice Florida, and I love it. I chose the very same picture that you have as your header, as an inspiration to redecorate my sunroom. I love that photo, and I love all the pics in your book. Very inspiring!
Your photos of a beach are so nice. Love to be in the beach to relax and unwind from the stressful life that i have lately.
