BUSES AND BRIDGES

The buses with the wedding guests drove from lower Manhattan to Brooklyn over the Manhattan Bridge.

The Brooklyn Bridge, the city’s oldest and most beloved bridge, would have been a more direct route, but it’s closed to commercial traffic.

Our caravan approached the Manhattan Bridge by snaking its way through the narrow Chinatown streets. Yes, that is a stretch Hummer!
Our destination was DUMBO (that’s short for Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass), a once a gritty commercial neighborhood that is now home to trendy New Yorkers, expensive boutiques, and chic restaurants.

The reception was at Bubby's restaurant.

Located right on the water, the restaurant has a fabulous city view.

Stand on your tippy toes and you can even see the Statue of Liberty.

Here's a peek at one of the flower arrangements. Chunks of leeks hold the orchids and fragrant hyacinths upright.

Originally a pie bakery, Bubby's has scrumptious blueberry and pumpkin pie recipes on their web site.
Since it's sour cherry season in my garden, I'll post my recipe for chunky cherry pie in time for the 4th of July. Also a few of my favorite new summer-worthy wallpaper patterns.
